INTRODUCTION TO THE ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE: An inspiring path to challenge music performance anxiety
The Alexander Technique has long been recognized by musicians as a practical and thoughtful way to prevent and heal repetitive strain injuries caused by undue tensions. However, the indirect but powerful benefit of A.T. practice has been the ability to address issues pertaining to performance anxiety. This key aspect of the practice for musicians has also kept them coming back. The Alexander Technique is an inspired and grounded way to approach musical performance, allowing little space for anxiety to intrude. Join us and experiment with a way that can orient your practice and performance experience in the here and now, where everything is known and can be dynamically explored, modified, enjoyed and shared, not feared.

9:30 am Welcome to the official opening
10:00 am to 12:00 pm Fair OPEN HOUSE
The official opening of the Musicians’ Wellness Centre will be followed by our two-hour fair, which will consist of short lectures, hands-on workshops, and masterclasses taught by a variety of local health professionals, including brigitte Caron for the Alexander Technique. The fair will be an opportunity for musicians to sample different approaches to musicians’ wellness by attending up to two sessions, providing introductory knowledge and practical skills for improving their wellness.
“It was a pleasure to connect with brigitte and her team at the University of Ottawa Musicians’ Wellness Centre and participate in their workshops. The sessions were engaging, informative, inspiring, and provided opportunities for each participant to explore and experience the Alexander Technique through various exercises with hands-on input and knowledgeable support from the instructors. I felt immediate differences in my posture and increased freedom of movement through the experience. I’d highly recommend the workshops offered by The Montreal School of A.T.”
